More About Us
Not bigger government - not smaller government
but better government.
Not right - not left
but forward.
The Josephine County, Oregon, Democrats usually don't get contributions from big money interests. Our issues tend toward social justice for everyone in America, including working families at the middle and lower income levels. We fight for a decent living wage, good health care for all citizens, a healthful environment and quality education available to all - no matter where they live or how much money their families have
So the Josephine County Democrats accept contributions that regular folks can afford, and depend heavily on volunteers to help spread the word, get out the vote and promote important issues and candidates. The more volunteers we have, the better we can do.
A motivated Democrat talking sincerely to neighbors is something campaign contributions can't buy.
What are the important things I can do?
- Make sure that every registered Democrat in your precinct actually votes in each election. We'll teach you how to do it.
- Get to know other voters in your precinct. Make sure they get important information about our issues and candidates. We have materials and training.
- Help introduce our candidates to voters in your precincts by walking with them or arranging small gatherings.
- Help identify unregistered voters who might vote for our candidates and issues - and get them registered. We have materials and training.
Do I have to run around knocking on doors and making phone calls to strangers?
No, there are MANY other ways you can help. But many of us have found that calling and door to door visits can be fun. You never have to argue with people or try to change their minds. Just spread the word. Hearing from you can persuade someone in your precinct to vote for Democratic issues and candidates. Let us show you how it works.
Is the JCDCC a real Democratic organization or just a local bunch of liberals with an agenda?
The Josephine County Democratic Central Committee is connected directly to the State Democratic Party of Oregon and the National Democratic Party. We elect delegates to attend state party meetings and serve on statewide committees. Josephine County, like all the other Oregon counties, has a voice in the issues that Oregon Democrats promote. The members of the JCDCC are local men and women who have committed to being precinct committee leaders.
Do I have to actually join the JCDCC to help the Democrats and try to make a difference?
Certainly not. You can volunteer to help in many ways. We want to hear your ideas. The most precious gift you can give is your time and talent. We need people to help run errands, plan, organize tasks, write, prepare mail, make phone calls and distribute materials. Just contact us and we'll put you on our list of people we can count on in your precinct. We'll send you materials and give you some training. It's not a big time commitment. If you have read this far, we KNOW you'll be terrific.
Do I have to know lots about issues, politics, fundraising and legislatures?
You already know what's important and have a good feeling for what's right, or you wouldn't be reading this. We value your feeling that something is wrong and you want to help make it right. If you want to learn some nuts and bolts, it's not hard. We'll help you.
What if I want to get more directly involved and present motions, vote on issues, be on committees, or even be an officer or a delegate to state meetings?
You can become directly involved by actually joining the JCDCC. You can be elected as an official precinct representative in your precinct. The requirements are simple. You must be a registered Democrat and attend two consecutive monthly meetings of the JCDCC where you speak briefly about why you want to join. A ballot is taken - and you're in! After that, let yourself blossom. The sky is the limit. You'll have an official voice in Democratic Party matters. And, there is no charge.
Is this going to cost me lots of money?
There are no dues or required donations.. Most of us have more enthusiasm than money. The JCDCC does NOT pay for your travel, lodging or meals if you attend party functions locally or statewide. We hope you'll decide to help with money and attend some fundraising events.
Money is important,
but we also value your time, talent, and commitment.
